Compact Power Equipment, a Home Depot Company located in Fort Mill, SC, is a fast-growing, values driven organization comprised of a Rental and Services division.

Compact Power Equipment Rental Division operates in over 1000 locations of The Home Depot across the U.S. and Canada, offering large towable equipment rental and on-site equipment delivery. The Compact Power fleet includes chippers, trenchers, mini-excavators, skid steers, aerial equipment, and tractor loader backhoes among others.  With a large team of highly trained technicians, operators and VIP customer care associates throughout the U.S. and Canada, we are a technology focused leader in the equipment rental industry.


Candidate must reside within the Northern Division.



The Division Rental Manager is responsible for the consistent execution of all operational processes of all Regions within the Division. The Division Rental Manager reports to the Director and is tasked with the responsibilities outlined below. The Northern Division includes: Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, WV, NJ, NY, CT, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, MA, Rhode Island, OH, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa



  • In collaboration with the Director, develops and implements an action plan to achieve overall Division financial and performance goals, including such components as:
    • Revenue Goal
    • Net Income Goal
    • Revenue Per Unit Goal
    • Dollar Cost Utilization Goal
    • Percentage of Units Down Goal
    • Average Days Down Goal
    • Employee Retention and Development Goals
    • THD and End-User Customer Satisfaction Goals
    • Compliance to The Home Depot Values


  • Hires, trains and performance manages all Regional Managers in the Division, including:
    • Completing annual Regional Manager performance reviews
    • Developing content for, executing, and following-up on weekly Regional Managers meetings
    • Making quarterly visits to each Region and performing store walks to observe quality of The Home Depot store relationships and the quality of technicians’ work.


  • Reviews regional reporting with each Regional Manager to ensure compliance with:
    • Store visits, preventive maintenance, lift inspections, prompt repairs of down equipment, and equipment deliveries
    • Consistent and effective use of Fieldone by all Region technicians to document all service work performed as well as equipment and parts transfers
    • Timely deployment of new equipment to stores
    • Accuracy of whole goods inventory
    • Shop and technician inventory accuracy
    • Vehicle and related parts and fixed asset inventory
    • Employee compliance to The Home Depot standards for professional dress and behavior standards
  • Reviews weekly staffing matrix reports and ensures Regional Managers are taking appropriate action to fill all open positions, including interviewing qualified candidates and communicating with HR regarding candidate follow-up, employment offers, and statuses.
  • Participates in the interview process of all ARMs, MSTs, DSTs, and Shop Techs.
  • Reviews and approves all performance-based increases in pay (base or percentage) or other employee changes, promotions, etc.
  • Participates in all employee terminations, including reviewing performance documentation with Regional Manager and HR and taking steps to handle appropriately and professionally.
  • Performance manages Divisional Training Manager, including reviewing quality and content of training performed, and setting priorities consistent with strategy outlined with Director.
  • Works with Divisional Training Manager to prioritize training by Region and Market and to establish the training plan and schedule.
  • Strengthens and expands relationship with The Home Depot in all areas and at all levels of the organization. This includes:
    • Working with the RDOs, DOMs, Operations and Store Managers within each Region, including conducting store walks, and optimizing every TRC’s performance, fleet placement, and CPER responsiveness.
    • Reviewing results of Tri-Annual TRC Surveys with each Regional Manager and ensuring that Regional Manager makes appropriate follow-up to address any issues or concerns expressed in the survey.


  • Working with Safety & Asset Protection Manager (Eric Travland) to optimize employee and customer safety training and asset retention and recovery
  • Working with Internal Audit Manager (Chuck Cheatwood) to reinforce positive field audit observations and take corrective action on negative observations or opportunities
  • Working with Whole Goods Sales Manager (Brian Reeves) to regularly pull old or underperforming assets from the field to be sold
  • Working with Divisional Accountant (Hayley Cheatwood) and Controller (Chris Webb) to optimize financial performance and internal controls of each Region & Area
  • Assist in the development of content and execution of the Annual Meeting – as forum to enhance RM and CPER Team performance and shared vision of one year and long-term team goals
  • Ensures that weekly ARM and MST meetings are taking place and that content from weekly RM meeting is being shared with these important team members
  • Responsible for the safety and development of the employees and customers in reporting regions
  • Responsible for safeguarding and care of the assets (people, vehicles, machines, shops) in reporting regions
  • Responsible for ensuring that The Home Depot values are actively used to hire, train, promote and reward employees.

Job Requirements

  • Qualifications

    • Extensive and proven leadership skills and the ability to performance manage a team
    • 10+ years of management experience, rental experience a plus
    • Ability to work collaboratively with store level and field level colleagues in order to provide a spectacular customer experience, and optimize and grow the business.
    • Ability to interpret financial statements and performance reporting, and draw conclusions and make appropriate operational changes in response
    • Ability to provide world class customer service, and inspire other team members to do the same.
    • Working knowledge of key categories of rental equipment, including basic applications, features, benefits, and safety issues.
    • Understanding of the importance of technology, and the ability to adopt and accelerate the competent usage of technologies across the field team
    • Effective verbal and written communication with field personnel, store associates, and customers
    • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history
