The Home Depot Rental operates in over 1100 locations of The Home Depot across the US and Canada, offering large towable equipment, tools, trucks and trailer rental along with on-site equipment delivery.  The large equipment fleet includes trenchers, chippers, mini-excavators, skid steers, aerial work platform equipment, and tractor loader backhoes among others.  With a large team of highly trained technicians, shop techs, and VIP Delivery Technicians and customer care associates throughout the United States and Canada.

Summary:

The Logistics Planner ensures that truckload freight and partial load freight picks up and delivers on time, at the right cost, and to ensure all stakeholders are kept up-to-date of the timelines and any delays that may arise. To achieve this, the Logistics Planner must work with vendors and carriers to ensure all parties are executing as desired and that each party is accountable for failures, including daily communications and reporting.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and schedule full and partial freight loads of construction equipment and utility trailers

•    Develop and execute cost-effective plans for all equipment and trailers shipments in accordance with the master deployment schedule

  • Enhance shipment notification process from vendor to field management regarding all loads

•     Communicate effectively with all parties necessary for each shipment, delivery, or transfer (i.e. Regional Managers, Titles and Licensing Department, freight carriers, equipment dealers, equipment manufacturers, and other outside service providers)

  • Ensure vendors are following proper protocol for communication information as it relates to order status updates and shipment ETAs
  • Maintain and update freight log for all shipments to ensure accurate tracking
  • Ensure all loads are picked up and delivered on time – identify any delays and troubleshoot until resolved

•     Manage logistics of Canadian fleet, including scheduling of export shipments and coordinating with customs broker to ensure freight efficiency from start to finish

•      Analyze cost comparison data to ensure optimal use of fleeting budget

•      Coordinate with Fleet Manager on shipments to field, including scheduling trucks with transport carriers, utilizing available trailer space, transferring equipment from the field for sale or re-deployment, and arranging other shipping logistics

  • Strategically plans freight loads according to geographic location, planned deployment timing and cost-efficiency
  • Ensures that required documentation is submitted for all shipments, including inventory transfer forms, and bills of lading (BOLs), and provides to all required parties in fleet management, accounting, and regions receiving shipments

 

Job Requirements

•         Demonstrated ability to Problem Solve, including efficiency in determining solutions and communicating through proper channels to achieve optimal results.

•         Excellent communication skills, including: influencing, reporting, and relationship building skills in internal and external environments.

•         Willingness to learn HD Rental business model and develop a deep understanding and knowledge of our equipment offering and geography.

•         Strong understanding of logistics and trucking, including LTL and full truckload shipping.

•         Knowledge of general geography, maps and trucking lanes and routes.

•         Ability to perform math and analysis necessary for cost comparison and scheduling.

•         Capable of managing multiple projects and responsibilities.

•         Works well under pressure and makes good decisions in light of unexpected difficulties (i.e. truck breakdowns, delays).

•         Works effectively with other team members and applies awareness of personal strengths and weaknesses in order to execute required tasks and solve problems.

•         Microsoft Office Suite with medium proficiency in Power Point, Excel, Outlook, and Word.

•         Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

 

Required Education

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
