The Home Depot Rental operates in over 1100 locations of The Home Depot across the US and Canada, offering large towable equipment, tools, trucks and trailer rental along with on-site equipment delivery.  The large equipment fleet includes trenchers, chippers, mini-excavators, skid steers, aerial work platform equipment, and tractor loader backhoes among others.  With a large team of highly trained technicians, shop techs, and VIP Delivery Technicians and customer care associates throughout the United States and Canada.

Position: Repair Tool Technicians specialize in the repair of 2 cycle/4 cycle engines, welders, compressors, hand held power tools, pressure washers and/or tillers, etc. They evaluate, diagnose and repair tools and engine failures provided by customers and Home Depot stores. Tool Technicians read the statement of the problem given by the store and/or customer and use problem solving skills, research skills and mechanical ability to diagnose and fix the tool. Techs often perform repair research using the internet and by consulting with other associates on the team. They read parts diagrams to perform repairs and use a multimeter to check for AC or DC voltages, resistance and continuity of electrical components as necessary. Tool Technicians input written communication on the cost, status, and resolution of repairs into the Repair Management System. As necessary, they request and order parts to ensure full repair of tools and engines. Techs ensure completion of repair prior to customer or store return.

 

Responsibilities:

Trouble-Shooting and Diagnosis:

Analyze and evaluate functionality of mechanical and/or electrical tools

Diagnose issue and prepare tool for servicing by testing conductors, checking oil, etc.

Collaborate with teammates on complex repairs

Research:

Research parts, costs, and solutions using internet resources and vendor manuals

Read and review tool malfunction description provided by the customer or store

Repair, adjust, replace parts on machines

Analyze tool to determine warranty coverage or customer misuse

Determine warranty availability on specified parts

Reassemble machines on a repair hold until customer approves repair cost above $100

Clean and stage machine for return shipment

Work Area:

Keep tools and shelves organized

Keep work areas clean

Safety:

Ensure that area and walking surfaces are safe

Review area for safe storage of tools and equipment

Ensure adherence to major and minor work rule policies regarding safety referenced in the Standards of Performance and policies detailed in the Code of Conduct

Immediately correct unsafe conditions or notify Manager

Positive and Productive Work Environment:

Train new associates on work procedures and repair

Follow all work policies, support guidelines outlined in Code of Conduct, and adhere to work schedule

Cooperate with Associates, Supervisors, and Managers, and complete work activities as assigned

Operating a computer and a multimeter

Operating tools and small engine machines

Disassembling and reassembling small and large mechanical and electrical parts

Identifying and reading manuals and parts diagrams

Frequently standing in the same location for long periods of time with some opportunity to move about

Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and moving tools and machines

Job Requirements

 

Required Education

  • High School Diploma, GED, Technical or Trade School - or equivalent experience
